Avenue Supermarts, the parent company of popular retail chain D-Mart, has announced a major leadership transition. Anshul Asawa, who currently serves as Unilever’s Country Head in Thailand and General Manager for the Home Care division in Greater Asia, has been appointed as the CEO Designate. His appointment is set to take effect on March 15, 2025.

The announcement comes as Neville Noronha, the current Managing Director and CEO of Avenue Supermarts, confirmed he will not seek reappointment after his term concludes in January 2026. Noronha has been instrumental in D-Mart’s rise, overseeing its growth from just five stores in 2004 to more than 380 locations today.

Asawa, an alumnus of IIT Roorkee and IIM Lucknow, brings with him a wealth of experience from his 30-year tenure at Unilever. He has held various leadership roles across India, Asia, and Europe, with a strong track record in sales, marketing, and distribution. Asawa’s leadership is expected to further strengthen D-Mart’s growth trajectory as he prepares to assume the CEO role after Noronha’s term ends in early 2026.

During the leadership transition, Neville Noronha will continue to support Asawa to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities. Avenue Supermarts expressed its deep appreciation for Noronha’s contributions, acknowledging his remarkable leadership and the operational excellence he cultivated over the years.

Chairman CB Bhave praised Noronha for his vision and commitment, noting his significant role in shaping D-Mart’s success and culture.
