After CSK’s defeat in the IPL 2025 matches, MS Dhoni faced criticism for his contribution in the match.

CSK had a disappointing batting effort in the match played in Chennai at MA Chidambaram Stadium, scoring just 103 runs for nine wickets. Dhoni, batting at number nine, got out for one run by Sunil Narine. KKR easily chased, winning by eight wickets with nearly 10 overs in hand.

Sehwag explained the match by saying, “Had he not got out, they could have scored a maximum of 130. KKR had chased a total of 104 runs in 10.1 overs. That would have been the only difference.”

This loss is the team’s fifth consecutive defeat of the season, and the team’s play and approach are under question. Despite the return of Dhoni as captain following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, the team’s form remains unimproved.
Former coach Stephen Fleming made a remark on Dhoni’s new batting position that it’s a tactical adjustment for him in a bid to preserve his condition after undergoing knee surgery. Fleming affirmed Dhoni’s continued relevance for the team through experience and leadership.

With their desire for a comeback in the coming matches, the team will have to enhance their play in a bid to stay competitive in the tournament.
