Google has appointed Preeti Lobana as the new Country Manager and Vice President for India, reinforcing the company’s commitment to tapping into India’s rapidly growing digital economy. Lobana will take charge of leading Google India’s sales and operations, shaping the future of the company’s engagement in the country.

In a statement, Sanjay Gupta, President of Asia-Pacific at Google, praised Lobana’s leadership qualities, noting that her customer-centric approach has consistently driven impactful solutions for businesses across various industries. “Preeti’s leadership will be pivotal as we further strengthen our presence in India, leveraging AI innovations like Gemini 2.0 to foster digital inclusion and create significant economic opportunities for millions of Indians,” Gupta said.

Lobana takes over the role from Roma Datta Chobey, who served as the interim Country Manager and will continue to contribute in her position as Managing Director for Google India’s Digital Native Industries.

Expressing her excitement about the new role, Lobana shared, “India’s dynamic energy combined with Google’s advanced technologies presents an incredible opportunity. Before her appointment as Country Manager for India, Lobana served as Google’s Vice President for gTech, overseeing key operations like Partner and Publisher Operations. She brings vast experience from her previous leadership roles at major global financial institutions, including NatWest Group, American Express, Standard Chartered Bank, and ANZ Grindlays Bank.

Under Lobana’s leadership, Google India continues to focus on fostering digital literacy and inclusion. The company recently reported a 6.1% rise in its net profit, reaching Rs 1,424.9 crore for the fiscal year ending March 2024, highlighting its growing influence in the Indian market.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the country, Google aims to empower 10 million people in India with AI-driven digital literacy, focusing on students, educators, job seekers, startups, and government officials, ensuring they are prepared for the future of work.
