We got the latest news that the government shifted the recently appointed revenue secretary Arunish Chawla and appointed the DIPAM Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the revenue secretary. Arunish Chawla was appointed as revenue secretary by the Appointments Committee of the cabinet on December 25, which is now shifted to the Department of Investment.
Tuhir Kanta Pandey is the senior bureaucrat in the finance ministry, also designated as finance secretary. Before being appointed as the revenue secretary, Arunish was the 1992 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer of Bihar and he has been the secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers from 1st November 2023
Tuhin Kanta Pandey is a 1987 batch Orissa IAS Officer and he has been the longest-serving secretary at DIPAM. He also oversaw the sale of Air India and Neelanchal Ispat Nigam Ltd to Tata Group.
No reason was given for the changes, but it is speculated that the revenue department is the busiest one, especially ahead of budget and it requires close monitoring. Arunish Chawla is the culture secretary so he has the heavy workload due to Republic day and the Maha Kumbh
The changes in the bureaucracy are normal, but the shifting in the finance ministry is quite abnormal. It all started in the month of December with the surprise appointment of Sanjay Malhotra as the RBI Governor.
