Wilson Resigns as Chairman of Air India Express| Aggarwal Takes Charge

In a series of restructuring and strategic reorganisations in the aviation business of the Tata Group, Air India Managing Director and CEO Campbell Wilson has resigned as chairman of Air India Express. The development is a part of a larger strategy to promote synergy between the group’s full-service and low-cost passenger carriers.

Nipun Aggarwal, who is the current Chief Commercial Officer at Air India and a board member at Air India Express, will be the chairman. Air India’s Chief Operations Officer, Basil Kwauk, will also be a board member at Air India Express. Both Aggarwal and Kwauk will retain their positions at Air India.

Wilson, assuming the role of CEO and MD at Air India in June 2022, stated in an internal message that with structural integration essentially done, the attention now goes to refining the group’s fleet, network, sales, distribution, and loyalty programs. He reaffirmed his commitment to the overall performance of the Air India Group.
The takeover of Air India and its affiliates by the Tata Group in 2022 was the genesis of an all-encompassing transformational process. This involved merging four airlines to become two and the grouping of non-flying teams under the new group headquarters in Gurugram. The recent leadership transitions are regarded as critical milestones in fulfilling the group’s vision to create a world-class airline.

Nipun Aggarwal,known for being at the forefront of Tata Sons’ will now oversee the functioning of Air India, along with responsibly streamlining the ongoing aviation operations. The shift in management is to consolidate the market position in the highly competitive aviation sector.
