Salesforce has announced the appointment of Arundhati Bhattacharya as the CEO of its newly formed South Asia Operating Unit, a role she will take up on February 1. This strategic restructuring aims to streamline Salesforce’s operations across India and Southeast Asia (ASEAN) by consolidating these key markets under unified leadership.
Currently serving as the CEO and Chairperson of Salesforce India, Bhattacharya will now oversee Salesforce’s expanding presence across India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. Her new role signals a commitment to accelerate growth in these regions by building on the company’s successful trajectory in India.
Arun Kumar Parameswaran, Managing Director of Salesforce India’s sales division, will continue to lead the ASEAN sales leadership team under Bhattacharya’s leadership. He will remain directly accountable to Bhattacharya as part of the new operational structure.
Based in India, Bhattacharya is positioned to drive Salesforce’s regional growth from a location that holds strategic importance for the company’s operations. In a statement to The Economic Times, she emphasized the potential for collaboration within the South Asia and ASEAN markets. “The synergies in these countries are immense, and we are focused on harnessing the opportunities for growth across the region,” Bhattacharya said.
Salesforce’s growth in India has been a major success story, with the company achieving $1 billion in revenue for the 2023-24 financial year, marking a 36% year-on-year increase. Bhattacharya is now tasked with replicating this success across other ASEAN markets. The company is prioritizing localized products and services tailored to the unique needs of each country in the region. Data localization and country-specific features are central to Salesforce’s expansion strategy.
As part of its broader regional push, Salesforce has established offices in key ASEAN countries, including Singapore (since 2004), Thailand (since 2021), and Indonesia (since 2023). With this new leadership structure, Salesforce aims to continue its momentum and achieve greater market penetration across South Asia and Southeast Asia.
This move marks a pivotal moment in Salesforce’s strategy for expanding its influence in the rapidly growing digital economies of South Asia and ASEAN.
