Amit Narang, a seasoned diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Slovenia. Narang, currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Oman, is expected to begin his new posting soon, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a press release.

Born on January 28, 1975, Narang brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He assumed his position as the Ambassador to Oman in October 2021 and has played a key role in strengthening India-Oman bilateral relations. Before his tenure in Oman, Narang was the head of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Division at the MEA, overseeing India’s relationships with maritime neighbors.

Narang’s distinguished career also includes serving as India’s Chief Vigilance Officer and overseeing consular and visa policies. Additionally, his expertise in international diplomacy has led him to serve in key roles at the United Nations. Narang represented India in various climate change negotiations, including those at Cancun (Mexico), Durban (South Africa), and Paris (France), contributing to the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015.

His tenure at the UN also saw him playing a significant role in the adoption of June 21 as International Yoga Day, a resolution that garnered global support.

Fluent in Chinese, Narang has served twice in China, where he focused on bilateral economic and commercial relations. His diplomatic career continues to evolve, with his upcoming role in Slovenia marking another milestone in his impressive journey.
