In a move that signals growing confidence in Southeast Asia’s electric vehicle market, TVS Motor Company has formally integrated Singapore’s ION Mobility, a tech-driven EV startup. The development is part of TVS’s broader effort to strengthen its global EV play, particularly in high-potential ASEAN economies.
The integration brings James Chan, Founder and CEO of ION Mobility, into the TVS fold as Senior Vice President. He will now spearhead TVS’s operations across the ASEAN region and drive the upcoming launch of the M1-S electric platform, which has already generated buzz in the local market.
TVS, one of India’s top two-wheeler manufacturers, is banking on this move to fast-track its international growth. According to Sharad Mohan Mishra, President of Group Strategy at TVS, the collaboration merges ION’s agile design strengths with TVS’s scale and R&D muscle — a combination he believes will help TVS carve out a meaningful share in the regional EV space.
The company has already seen traction with its iQube electric scooter, which boasts close to 600,000 users, and holds over 650 EV-related patents.
The ION integration reinforces TVS Motor’s vision under “Reimagine 2030” — a roadmap that aims to transform the company into a global player in clean mobility.
