Sany India, a subsidiary of the global heavy equipment manufacturer, is stepping into the Indian heavy commercial vehicle market, with a particular focus on electric vehicles (EVs). The company has appointed Anurag Dubey, a former senior executive at Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, to head its newly established Heavy Duty Truck and Electric Vehicle Business Unit. This week, Dubey is set up to join Sany India.
Reporting to Sany India’s Vice Chairman and MD, Deepak Garg, Dubey brings significant expertise in scaling business operations. His previous leadership role in launching and growing IPL Tech, coupled with his extensive experience at Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, positions him well to drive Sany’s ambitious new venture in India. This move is in line with Sany’s global strategy to expand beyond its core construction machinery business, where it is well-known in India for backhoe loaders and cranes.
Sany India’s automotive division already produces light trucks, semi-trailer tractors, dump trucks, and off-highway mining trucks. Additionally, the company is exploring the hydrogen truck segment, which is expected to grow rapidly in India. In April of this year, Sany unveiled its first electric truck, the SKT105E electric dump truck, marking an important milestone in its commitment to EVs.
As Sany competes with major industry players such as JCB, L&T, Tata Hitachi, and Case in India’s $10 billion construction equipment market, the company is also keen on tapping into the growing demand for electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles. With the Indian government pushing for the electrification of the trucking industry, Sany is well-positioned to take advantage of emerging opportunities in both EV and hydrogen truck markets.
