Goyal specifically pointed out deep-tech innovation and high-impact manufacturing solutions as a priority focus over branded luxury goods.
During the Startup Mahakumbh 2025 event in New Delhi, Goyal specifically singled out the so-called “startups” with superficial branding, particularly those affiliated with billion-dollar families, that masquerade as entrepreneurial endeavors by slapping “healthy,” “vegan,” and “gluten-free” labels on food products.
“Labeled products placed in attractive packets do not constitute innovation,” Goyal quote left-anger-curse face. Solving real problems is what ought to be the mantra for startups.”
Focusing on robotics, automation, machine learning, electric vehicles, and semiconductor industries, Goyal said that is what is critical for India’s global competitiveness.
Goyal pointed out the difference with Chinese investment in battery technology and chip manufacturing compared to the Indian food delivery centric focus of so many entrepreneurial startups tackling low hanging consumer service tech.
In his opinion, these comments are bound to resonate as a clarion call for India’s startup ecosystem to get on board with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
