As organizations worldwide embrace artificial intelligence, Infosys is leading the charge by reshaping how it develops and empowers talent. Shaji Mathew, Chief Human Resources Officer at Infosys, outlines how the company is combining AI innovation with a human-centric approach to build a future-ready workforce.
Following recent news around the company parting ways with some trainees, Mathew addresses the issue with openness. He emphasizes that such decisions are never made lightly and are part of a well-defined, performance-based evaluation process. Each trainee is given clear expectations and support throughout their journey.
To ensure those impacted are not left behind, Infosys offers outplacement assistance and access to upskilling resources to help them continue their careers.
Infosys is taking a bold approach to talent transformation by embedding artificial intelligence into its core training and development initiatives. This includes:
Generative AI & Agentic AI Training
These cutting-edge capabilities are now part of Infosys’ foundational learning programs.
In-House Learning Platforms
Employees have access to personalized learning on platforms like Lex and Wingspan, featuring structured growth paths tailored to AI readiness.
Three AI Competency Levels
AI-Aware: Basic knowledge to use AI tools effectively
AI-Builder: Skills to create AI-based solutions and products
AI-Master: Advanced expertise in developing scalable, high-impact AI systems
Mathew shares, “We are building a workforce that not only understands AI but can apply it meaningfully across roles, industries, and business challenges.”
Infosys’ learning model isn’t just about technical skills. The company is also investing in emotional intelligence and personalized development through tools like:
Zoe – Offers custom learning journeys with real-life simulations that strengthen communication, leadership, and other soft skills.
Navi – Acts as a digital coach and guide, helping employees navigate career paths, resolve queries, and maintain wellness.
These tools, built on Infosys’ Responsible AI framework, ensure ethical, thoughtful, and inclusive use of technology for employee development.
Infosys’ talent strategy applies across the board—from entry-level recruits to experienced professionals. By redesigning roles and offering seamless career mobility, the company enables employees to continually evolve their skills.
Through Lex, Infosys employees access over 15,000 courses and dedicate an average of 35 minutes daily to learning, underscoring the culture of continuous growth.
Infosys is prioritizing the following skill areas to align with industry needs:
Generative and agentic AI
Full-stack development
AI tooling and model deployment
Data engineering and automation
Mathew reiterates, “Our role-aligned, skills-first approach ensures our people are not just keeping pace but leading in the digital transformation.”
Addressing the trainee exits, Mathew explains that all individuals entering Infosys go through a clear training framework. They sign an Apprenticeship Registration Form, and the training is fully funded by the company. Performance assessments are conducted transparently and communicated early in the process.
Those who don’t meet the performance benchmarks are provided with resources to find alternate opportunities and enhance their capabilities.
Despite media attention around trainee separations, Mathew is confident Infosys remains a top choice among young professionals.
The company plans to hire 20,000 graduates in FY26, who will be immersed in its #ThriveAtInfosys culture—a philosophy focused on holistic growth, mutual support, well-being, and career development.
“We foster a workplace where people are encouraged to cheer for each other, balance effort with rejuvenation, and grow in alignment with their personal and professional aspirations,” says Mathew.
